KUDOS to ASB and Mr. Riego! "Nightmare Before Christmas" this week went very well and folks got into the spirit of the dress up days! We culminated the week in our Winter Assembly and are very proud to announce our student selected "Golden Apple Teacher of the Year" Mr. Dan Sutton! A dedicated historian with a large private collection of military memorabilia, including his signature authentic historic military uniforms. Students selected Dan because he "LOVES teaching and walking into his classroom is like walking into history" and "He explains everything that happens in the past, including the uniforms he wears and the antiques he brings". Congratulations Dan! The Wolf Pack is truly grateful you choose to teach, inspire and educate with us!
And the Golden Apple goes to.....

On Wednesday, December 5, Academic League beat Santana to win the "Santee Mayor's Cup"! Senior and Captain Sam Keeley (on his 18th birthday!) led the team to a 84-66 victory! Thank you Coaches Corrie Biggerstaff and Michelle Liddell for working with both the Varsity and J.V. teams! More matches to come this winter season.
Way to go Wolf Pack!

On Saturday, December 8, Wolfpack cheer took home the win for CIF in Division ll! Way to bring home the gold for the Pack! Cheer became an official sport through action by the California legislature in the 2017-18 school year with CIF creating rules and procedures for this new event. Thank you Coach Krystal Kammeyer and Adviser Jessica! Go Wolf Pack CIF Champions!
Congratulations to the Guitar and Orchestra programs for two beautiful performance evenings this past week! Under the direction of Steve Lorentz, Beginning / Intermediate Guitar Concert on Wednesday was impressive! It is hard to believe that many of these students have NEVER PLAYED an instrument of any kind before starting the class in August. That was followed up on Saturday night with the Advanced Guitar and Stringed Orchestra performance. We are fortunate to have such an group of dedicated and talented students under the expert guidance of Steve! Next up--all are welcome to our Band Concert, Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 7:00 p.m and our Choir Performances Friday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m. in our Theater for both events. Mr. Dominick Maldonado will be leading his students as they perform and spread joy this winter season!
Thank you ASB and Classrooms for your Pancake and Syrup donations for the Santee Food Bank collected over the last two weeks.
Save the Dates and Class Competition: January 14-25, 2019: MLK Canned Food Drive:
Based on recommendations from Student Senate and teachers last year, we are going to focus our 5th Period Class Competition during the MLK Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Drive held on Monday, January 14th through Friday, January 25th. We will now be recognizing two divisions:
1. Total Volume (Most cans collected)
2. Per Capita (Number of items collected divided by the number of students in your class roster)
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ardy Riego. Thank you for your time!
The GUHSD, along with all public school districts in California, has been working with District Administrators and a district-wide inclusive committee regarding Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). You may remember a brief overview of this in our back to school days in August. We are in the FACT FINDING and INFORMING stages as we "get the word out" and focus on our first area, Universal Design for Learning (UDL). A district work group is convening to design Professional Development for all certificated staff regarding UDL. West Hills is looking for two-three certificated staff members to join this District planning group. Please see Robin if you would like more information.
