Week of Dec.14-18,2015

Welcome to the final week before break!

CAMP LEAD was GREAT! West Hills had 40 students and 8 staff members experience a variety of activities, discusssions and build a community with 70 other students from Mount Miguel, Grossmont, El Capitan, IDEA, Chaparral, and Mountain Empire. We will share the roster of students with you so you will know which students attended. The focus of camp is building awareness of ourselves and others through empathy, engaging with others regarding stereotypes, and building our leadership capacity plus so much more! We hope to have another group of students and staff attend in the Spring.

Congratulations to WHHS Choirs for their BEAUTIFUL Performance Thursday, Dec. 10! Everyone enjoyed our terrific singers with Mrs. Rachael Samuelsz leading them!

WINTER SPORTS SPIRIT WEEK...Pep Rally and assembly schedule is WEDNESDAY, DEC. 16. Assembly schedule was placed in mailboxes last week...please attend with your classes! Our student selected GOLDEN APPLE Teacher will be announced as well!

Week of Nov.16-20, 2015

A week of Thankfulness...and some reminders....

Thank you to all period 3 teachers for participating in our LEAVES of THANKFULNESS! From our wonderful PBIS team:

Now that we are well into November the PBIS team has linked with ASB in a Gratitude/Thankfulness Campaign.  We all have something to be thankful for and sharing those messages of gratitude helps to foster a positive climate.  The article Why Gratitude is Good, written by UC Davis Psychology Professor,Robert A. Emmons, Ph.D has more information regarding the positive physical, psychological, and social impact of gratitude.

ASB will be placing paper leaves in 3rd period teacher boxes Thursday. We would like teachers to pass out the leaves  on Friday during 3rd period, asking students to write one thing they are thankful for.  They do not have to write their names if they do not want.  ASB will come around 5th period to collect the leaves.  The leaves will then be displayed on a tree in the office.

If your leaves do not get collected please put them in the designated leaf box in the VP office.

Thanks you so much for your support and help making West Hills a safe and positive place for students to learn and grow.

LITERACY SLAM: Thank you to Jodi Kohler and AVID for our entry this week with THANK YOU to Suzanne and her wonderful T.A.s in the library for making this really easy to film and post!  We will link the learning log to our teacher resources page if you would like to take a closer look!

THANK YOU to ALL who have participated in our TWO IMPORTANT surveys...please do so before we leave on our Thanksgiving break!
