West Hills High School is closed December 22-January 6, 2018, however our fields, Gym and Performing Arts facilities are used by all kinds of organizations, booked by both West Hills (for our own on campus people) and by the District for off-campus outside agencies for a fee. These fees are returned to WHHS to maintain and upkeep our beautiful campus.

WINTER  BREAK: Please unplug and turn off any small electronics--coffee pots, refrigerators, desk top computers, microwaves, etc. during our week off.  Every dollar we save on electricity COMES BACK TO WHHS!

A Personal message from Robin to you:

“To Be of Use,” from the book Circles on the Water (1982) by Marge Piercy:

To Be of Use

The people I love the best jump into the work head first
without dallying in the shallows
and swim off with sure strokes almost out of sight.
They seem to become natives of that element,
the black sleek heads of seals
bouncing like half-submerged balls.

I love people who harness themselves, as an ox to a heavy cart, who pull like water buffalo,
with massive patience,
who strain in the mud and the muck to move things forward,
who do what has to be done, again and again.

I want to be with people who submerge in the task, who go into the fields to harvest
and work in a row and pass the bags along,
who are not parlor generals and field deserters
but move in a common rhythm
when the food must come in or the fire be put out.

The work of the world is common as mud. Botched, it smears the hands, crumbles to dust.
But the thing worth doing well done
has a shape that satisfies, clean and evident.
Greek amphoras for wine and oil,
Hopi vases that held corn, are put in museums
but you know they were made to be used.
The pitcher cries for water to carry
and a person for work that is real.

May joy and laughter meet you and yours in Winter Break and into 2019!. I am so fortunate and grateful to engage in the most important and real work with each of you.
Go Wolf Pack!

A dedicated historian with a large  private collection of military memorabilia, including his signature authentic historic military uniforms. Students selected Dan because he "LOVES teaching and walking into his classroom is like walking into history" and "He explains everything that happens in the past, including the uniforms he wears and the antiques he brings".  Congratulations Dan! The Wolf Pack is truly grateful you choose to teach, inspire and educate with us!

wolf playing guitar and violin

Congratulations to the Guitar and Orchestra programs for two beautiful performance evenings this past week! Under the direction of Steve Lorentz, Beginning / Intermediate Guitar Concert on Wednesday was impressive! It is hard to believe that many of these students have NEVER PLAYED an instrument of any kind before starting the class in August. That was followed up on Saturday night with the Advanced Guitar and Stringed Orchestra performance. We are fortunate to have such an group of dedicated and talented students under the expert guidance of Steve! Next up--all are welcome to our Band Concert, Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 7:00 p.m and our Choir Performances Friday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m. in our Theater for both events. Mr. Dominick Maldonado will be leading his students as they perform and spread joy this winter season!

Image result for MTSS The GUHSD, along with all public school districts in California, has been working with District Administrators and a district-wide inclusive committee regarding Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). You may remember a brief overview of this in our back to school days in August. We are in the FACT FINDING and INFORMING stages as we "get the word out" and focus on our first area, Universal Design for Learning (UDL)A district work group is convening to design Professional Development for all certificated staff regarding UDL. West Hills is looking for two-three certificated staff members to join this District planning group. Please see Robin if you would like more information.
