Unfortunately, I will not be able to extend the closure past 1:00p, so please let me know well ahead of the deadline if you need any assistance with entering your grades. If you would like to confirm completion of your grades after you've entered them, feel free to send me an email and I will be happy to check them for you.

Wishing everyone a great spring break. Stay healthy & safe!

The College Board just recently released their testing schedule for 2021. Knowing that schools across the country are operating in a variety of ways during this pandemic, they have provided varying options and methods

Individual schools are required to set their own testing schedule amidst these parameters based on our schedule, facilities, and availability of proctors.

Using teacher feedback and considering all that goes into this national testing, we created this West Hills Advanced Placement testing schedule . This will require us (as always) to possibly ask classes to move temporarily so we might test students. Assist. Principal Carrie Gaeir will be talking with those possibly affected as soon as we complete a student survey of which options they want to choose for which exams. Social distancing and some facilities limitations due to construction complicate all of this, and we THANK YOU for your patience with us if we need to ask you to please move to another space for a day to allow for this testing.

Aloha kākou,

The Class of 2023 needs your help in a new fun way! We will be holding the first annual Pack Trials Fundraiser mid April-early May 2021. The "Trials" we have planned are fun, safe, and can be completely virtually. Each Trial has a dollar amount that must be reached before the trial takes place. Trials are filmed and then streamed for a limited time. If we reach our goal, Robin has graciously agreed to being whip cream pie'd and we will create a full Pack Trials 2021 video to relive the fun for a limited time.

To kick us off with our first trial and a goal of $50 raised, Jodi Kohler, Deb Dissinger, and Tiffany Jokerst have agreed to participate in "Chocolatey Chance."

Please consider joining in the fun with us! ASB students in all grades are also being invited to participate. Please fill out the attached google form indicating which trials you would be willing to participate in!

Mahalo!

Elise Reinert and Karen Nylund-Lieb

And now we hope you will enjoy some comedic relief from our very own Advanced Theatre student her short film ¨The Evolution of Zoom".

We are very proud to announce Mrs. Tiffany Jokerst as our
West Hills "Teacher of the Year"!

Tiffany teachers mathematics and PLTW Aerospace
Engineering. She has many years in the classroom and is
a mathematics leader within the GUHSD and a key
link with our college and university articulation partners.
Tiffany has a great heart for students, teaching and learning! She
will go on to represent us at the District and into the San Diego
County "Teacher of the Year" program. Kudos Mrs. Jokerst!

THANK YOU for our successful WASC mid-term virtual visit!

Our WASC Visiting Committee ended up wanting to just share information with Tanya and Robin since we did AWESOME and they did not want to take everyone away from the important work you are currently doing on Tuesday. They asked us to express to you:

*West Hills remains "one of the most impressive schools they have visited" with an "incredible school culture and with a lot of evidence for "We are One, We are the Pack" being as true today as it was three years ago when they originally visited.

*We have a deeply professional, committed and supportive faculty and staff. In the PLC meetings, our Faculty and Staff meeting, and in the classrooms they visited online, they found ample evidence and support for this.

*They will have their written report to us to share out in 2-3 weeks and had few recommendations to offer other than "stay the course...you are doing excellent work".

Congratulations and THANK YOU for all you do each and every day for our students and parents. Go Wolf Pack!

THANK YOU to everyone involved in Athletics!
By March 15, all athletics will be in active status with practices and
many sports having had their first league competitions. While
this is VERY EXCITING for everyone, it is also very challenging due to
boys and girls of the same sport happening at the same time, shared
facilities, requirements for sanitizing and limiting spectators, the wearing of face
masks, and the new requirements to Covid test some sports prior to competitions
each week. We are PERSEVERING and we thank everyone for their continued
patience and following the myriad of guidelines to make this happen!
Some sports may be live streamed (like Swim on Friday) and we will keep
everyone informed as much as possible. TRIPLE KUDOS to teacher and Athletic Director
Lucas Hondros as well as Assist. Principal of Athletics April Baker for their
constant daily (hourly) monitoring of this ever changing dynamic.
Check out WH Athletics--Go Wolf Pack!

AP testing this year is not limited to the month of May. Because of the
complicated nature of the Quarter system and the wide variety of testing options for
schools to choose from (paper and pencil in person; online; on campus or off campus)
Assist. Principal Carrie Gaeir has worked closely with AP teachers to create a
schedule focused on what makes the most sense for a particular course with individual
students. This means we will be working with on campus staff (as always) to facilitate testing locations and to find proctors. Due to social distancing, this expands the numbers of classrooms
and testing areas on campus. More to come as we finalize which students are
testing from home and which are testing on campus and we will communicate
with individuals ASAP.

We have several Bond projects underway that also complicates both Athletics
and AP testing. Here is a short list:

Stadium Press Box: complete re-build through summer or sooner
Science Building Renovation: All teachers move out to temp. rooms; Project  begins May 10
Transformers replaced (electrical for entire campus): Summer 2021 (limits Summer School)
Air Conditioning installed in Gym: Initial work begins April - Summer; Limits Gym access
Dirt lot east and below Senior parking lot: District network center, summer 2021

More updates as we know them...thank you.

And now, our poignant and powerful video of the week from our very own
Theatre Program and Mrs. Karen Nylund-Lieb's student

We'd like to share Rosie Witucki’s student film from our Advanced Theatre class with the staff.  The assignment was to express the year 2020 using photos the class members took to express emotions like Sadness, Isolation, Anger, Outrage, Hope and Joy.  Rosie’s piece focused on Isolation and Sadness.  She is submitting it to the San Diego MegaArts festival Student Showcase and it will also be showcased in the Advanced theatre #THISIS2020 short film collection premiering on March 12, 2021.

These feelings are not unique to students. Please reach out to our Employees Assistance Program (EAP) to find support and services as part of our benefits package. Or, if you do
not have our benefits package (visiting teachers, part time employees, etc) please check
out these San Diego Resources for all kinds of needs.
