for additional items of note....
Thank you for the terrific first three days back to work for all of us! If you could take a moment and complete this google survey to give us feedback, we appreciate it. Thank you to the 21 folks who have done so thus far. We have about 85 people who attended these days and your feedback is crucial for our continued planning.
Welcome to our new school Psychologist, Sara Leibelshon! Sara comes to us with six years experience working in a variety of public school settings. Located in Pack Den 3, we are excited to welcome Sara to the Wolf Pack!
TEACHERS: Please read and know for checking out textbooks / novels to students:
As West Hills does not have a dedicated Textbook Clerk, classroom teachers are responsible for textbook checkout and check-in using Destiny. See information below for help:

Solar Eclipse information....epic event but we need to be aware....
As you may have heard, there is a partial solar eclipse happening in San Diego on Monday, August 21, 2017. The eclipse will start at 9:07 am, reach its maximum coverage at 10:23 am and end at 11:46 am. Here is more information about viewing this in San Diego.
Please note that many staff members and students might be interested in observing the eclipse but there are safety instructions that every student and staff member should know.
Never look directly at the Sun. You can seriously hurt your eyes, and even go blind. Proper eye protection, like eclipse glasses or a Sun filter, is the only safe option. Sunglasses don't work.
Please make sure your students understand the dangers of watching the eclipse without eye protection including the fact that sunglasses do not protect their eyes. Here is a link about how students can safely watch the eclipse. Please note that the article starts with what NOT to do and then follows up with how to safely view the eclipse. These options require preparation ahead of time so please look them over in advance if you are interested in participating.
Here are some resources Franz Ruiz, Digital Learning Coach and Science teacher put together. Feel free to use and share as you like.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS for the Week
Enrollment and master schedule is not final until the third Friday of the year--September 1. If the expected number of students do not attend or more students than expected show up, classes may be closed or added as needed. Therefore, PLEASE keep the following in mind:
** TIMELY & CORRECT ATTENDANCE TAKING IS
MASSIVELY IMPORTANT***
Thank you all for your attention to this critical component of our school program. If you have any questions or concerns, please talk with Laura Devore in Attendance or a VP. (Brenda Morehouse is subbing for Laura who is recovering from knee surgery. 😀)
(a) tell any student who asks about "moving classes" that they need to go see their Counselor.
(b) Keep any student who is on your roster for that period in class with you even if you are above 38 or the maximum number of students you believe you should have. Let Joann DuFloth Johnson know and this will be corrected.
(c) Please do not share how many "open" seats you may or may not have in any one class period. Refer all students with these questions to the Counseling office.
Information Regarding Chromebooks and Library Hours
- Please check your email regarding and update on NO LOANERS of Chromebooks or chargers right now. (Proposed policy changes are here) Talk with your Dept. Chair. We want to see if we can curb the runaway loaner situation that we ended with last year.
- 9th grade students checked out Chromebooks on Thursday with Global Studies classes. THANK YOU GLOBAL STUDIES TEACHERS! There is a back order on the protective cases for these Chromebooks. Please know students will not have them until the end of September. Please urge students to be careful with them.
- 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students - If you are new to our school or have a Chromebook issue such as broken or lost items, please visit the library as soon as possible before school (starting at 7:00 am), at break, or at lunch.
- The library will be open for regular use starting on Friday, 8/18.
(d) Please check your mailbox in the Main office each day and sign in each day. This is critical for payroll and timely sharing of information / retrieval of information, particularly if you have a Period 3 ("Homeroom") class.
(e) Every Period 3 teacher will be asked to hand out and collect from each student during the first two weeks of school the following (look for these items in your mailbox in the main office in the near future):
(aa) the "Responsible Use Policy (RUP) updated for this year
(bb) the Free and Reduced Lunch application --critical for our Title I
funding and for students to access this important nutrition
program.
