June 7, 2018 SPECIAL Year end EDITION

Image result for west hills high school logo

The mission of West Hills High School is to graduate critical thinkers and problem-solvers who contribute positively to society as productive, responsible citizens.

Thank you to all who were in attendance and to those who supported this effort but were not able to attend. We had a terrific gathering of District support including Asst. Supt. of Ed Services Theresa Kemper, Asst. Supt. of Business Services, Scott Patterson, Direction of Instruction and Teacher Support Cindy Douglas as well as WHHS alumni faculty and staff who came out for this very special event. I opened with a few words and then our own Bob Guess and Jeff Boutelle spoke regarding Dave Hunter and then his wife, Beverly, spoke from the heart before she yanked the chord and unveiled our new Gym name. Attached are some photos and more will be shared via the last Wolf Pack Weekly special edition coming on Thursday. History matters and it is right and proper that Dave Hunter's name is permanently affixed on the Gym.

Beverly, Dave Hunter's wife, says a few words at the dedication ceremony.

Our very own Bob Guess speaks about Dave.

Jeff Boutelle added wit and fond memories of Dave.

Faculty Luncheon and Graduation were lovely!

Thank you to all for our lovely year end luncheon and for support of an participation in Graduation!
While we will miss staff who are retiring, or moving to another position in the district, it is always rewarding to end our year as we begin it...together. A huge THANK YOU to all Staff and Faculty who made both events possible. From set up to follow through, we could not have had success without you.

For all teaching faculty and staff whose contractual year is over, THANK YOU! We hope you have a lovely summer break! July will see just a few hearty folks staffing campus. July 16-20 is our "Grey week"--we are open to staff working, but not open to the general public and not answering phones.
We are CLOSED the week of July 23-27 for the District "Dark Week".

We look forward to seeing everyone back August 9 for the start of the new school year. Please look in your email about one week prior for the Agenda for our "Back to School" days.

Here is our 2018-19 Bell Schedule for your use.
It will be posted to our website July 1.

Summer Institute

The 2018 Summer Institute includes several technology-related offerings. Check out the schedule for specifics.

Coming Next Year
Now that all schools are 1-1, we will continue to work on evolving classroom practices to maximize the use of the technology tools available. We have added a couple of new premium tools to the GUHSDtech Technology Toolset - PearDeck and Adobe Spark. These tools round out an already robust set of tools. Check this Google Drawing to get a full view of the primary tools available.

Additionally, we have changes in the GUHSDtech team for next year. Reuben Hoffman is headed back to West Hills and John Berray has moved over to the Math Curriculum Specialist role. A big thanks to both Reuben and John for seeing us through the full implementation of FutureForward. Matt Norris (West Hills) and Travis Engstrand (Monte Vista) will join Franz Ruiz as the district Digital Learning Coaches in August to continue the work of supporting teachers, counselors, administrators, and staff.

Move to the New Google Sites?
If you are still holding on to your classic/legacy Google Site, Google just unveiled a tool to transfer your content to the new Google Sites platform. For more information, check out our Converting to New Sites guide. There is a Google Sites workshop in the first week of Summer Institute. You can also attend any of the Technology Work sessions to get help over the summer!

We need your help Teachers....please plan to check in student textbooks as soon as possible during Finals week (and before for Seniors). If you need T.A.s to assist you with this, please let Admin know.
  • Link to Destiny Fine Correction Form (For Teachers) Please use this form to enter corrections for students as needed. For example, "Two years ago I let student X into the classroom next to mind and watched them leave their World History textbook with a note for their classroom teacher so please do not continue to give them a fine".

No Senior may get their Cap and Gown (on Friday, June 1, 2:00 gym)  with any fines

Please read the following message with information from Suzanne regarding Destiny processes for textbook check in and fines for the end of the year.

Please bookmark and review the following new website that includes Destiny help links and important information regarding textbook and fine-related deadlines:

Destiny Help for WHHS Staff

IMPORTANT items and processes to review, which are featured on the homepage:
  • ALL TEACHERS & STAFF: Make sure to read the IMPORTANT UPDATES REGARDING TEXTBOOKS & FINES section.
