IMPORTANT REMINDERS for TUESDAY
Enrollment and master schedule is not final until the third Friday of the year--September 1. If the expected number of students do not attend or more students than expected show up, classes may be closed or added as needed. Therefore, PLEASE keep the following in mind:
** TIMELY & CORRECT ATTENDANCE TAKING IS
MASSIVELY IMPORTANT***
Thank you all for your attention to this critical component of our school program. If you have any questions or concerns, please talk with Laura Devore in Attendance or a VP.
(a) tell any student who asks about "moving classes" that they need to go see their Counselor.
(b) Keep any student who is on your roster for that period in class with you even if you are above 38 or the maximum number of students you believe you should have. Let Joann DuFloth Johnson know and this will be corrected.
(c) Please do not share how many "open" seats you may or may not have in any one class period. Refer all students with these questions to the Counseling office.
(d) Any student who needs to see their schedule needs to go on their student portal. Freshmen will learn how to do this in HOWL and / or during their Global Studies (Geography) class. Printed schedules for freshmen were handed out during HOWL or students can check the tables at the front of school near the Flag Circle.
(e) Freshmen are scheduled to get their Chromebooks Thursday in their Global Studies class. Please know this is the plan and their Global Studies teacher will talk to them about this in detail.
Information Regarding Chromebooks and Library Hours
- The library is only open to handle Chromebook-related business through end-of-day Thursday, 8/17.
- 9th grade students will be checking out Chromebooks on Thursday with Global Studies classes. There is a back order on the protective cases for these Chromebooks. Please know students will not have them until the end of September. Please urge students to be careful with them.
- 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students - If you are new to our school or have a Chromebook issue such as broken or lost items, please visit the library as soon as possible before school (starting at 7:00 am), at break, or at lunch.
- The library will be open for regular use starting on Friday, 8/18.
(f) Please check your mailbox in the Main office each day and sign in each day. This is critical for payroll and timely sharing of information / retrieval of information, particularly if you have a Period 3 ("Homeroom") class.
(g) Every Period 3 teacher will be asked to hand out and collect from each student during the first two weeks of school the following (look for these items in your mailbox in the main office in the near future):
(aa) the "Responsible Use Policy (RUP) updated for this year
(bb) the Free and Reduced Lunch application --critical for our Title I
funding and for students to access this important nutrition
program.
Solar Eclipse information....epic event but we need to be aware....
As you may have heard, there is a partial solar eclipse happening in San Diego on Monday, August 21, 2017. The eclipse will start at 9:07 am, reach its maximum coverage at 10:23 am and end at 11:46 am. Here is more information about viewing this in San Diego.
Please note that many staff members and students might be interested in observing the eclipse but there are safety instructions that every student and staff member should know.
Never look directly at the Sun. You can seriously hurt your eyes, and even go blind. Proper eye protection, like eclipse glasses or a Sun filter, is the only safe option. Sunglasses don't work.
Please make sure your students understand the dangers of watching the eclipse without eye protection including the fact that sunglasses do not protect their eyes. Here is a link about how students can safely watch the eclipse. Please note that the article starts with what NOT to do and then follows up with how to safely view the eclipse. These options require preparation ahead of time so please look them over in advance if you are interested in participating.
Here are some resources Franz Ruiz, Digital Learning Coach and Science teacher put together. Feel free to use and share as you like.
