The mission of West Hills High School is to graduate critical thinkers and problem-solvers who contribute positively to society as productive, responsible citizens.

Activities for the week:

*** Students will be experiencing "Check Your Mood Week" with SDYS staff talking with them in every math class (each math section has one period this week with this on various days so each student will have the option to listen and learn one time.) Parents were notified of this event and it is OPTIONAL--either a student or parent may excuse their student from this discussion about mental health, warning signs and seeking help in the case of possible self-harm, and what to do if they or a friend needs support for depression, anxiety, or other issues. Our wonderful Guidance department along with SDYS staff and Admin will be supporting any student that indicates they would like to talk further privately both this week and the next. THANK YOU to our Math Department for supporting this critical work!

GREAT KINDNESS CHALLENGE: Week of January 22-26, 2018: Part of our "We are One, We are the Pack" positive school activities is coming up. We will be giving each Period 3 teacher one handout for each student for Monday, January 22 to use during that week. Our terrific ASB will be leading on campus activities and we will have notices in the bulletin and on our marquee about KINDNESS. We hope EVERYONE on campus will participate and support this effort through kind words, deeds and actions. YOU will get the same handout for ideas as well! Lucky for us, we typically do this ALL the time and it is just bringing more awareness to these ideas and attitudes that can help our entire school community. Parents will know of this as well via our "Wolf Call" so hopefully they might pick up ideas for their families to participate as well.

Mrs. Liddell, Mr. Acosta, Mrs. Boehme, and Mr. Ash gave students an invaluable experience prior to "live" testing. This year, we look forward to ALL TEACHERS assisting actively with our CAASPP testing to help us be better informed regarding the rigor and standards our students experience in this assessment cycle.

Thank you to ALL who had an Australian student shadowing a WHHS student on Friday. Jodi Kohler gets thanks as well for coordinating the details. We have had this program for over 20 years and it is lovely to give these students and teachers a chance to experience a West Hills day!

Winter Formal was a great success Saturday night! Students really seemed to enjoy themselves. If they weren’t on the dance floor they were playing video games with the "History of Video Games" or with the science exhibits. The Fleet center staff complimented us on how well behaved our students were. THANK YOU Mrs. Addy, Class of 2019 Adviser, Class officers, Admin and Campus Supervision for making this happen! Thank you too for any faculty and staff who attended...students LOVE seeing you at their events!

  1. Knowledge Constellation Nonfiction Book Project Gallery - During the Fall semester, Liddell’s AP Lang students independently read a nonfiction book of their choice. As they read, they conducted research related to their book. And, in the end, they created a way to share their findings as a “knowledge constellation.” Click here to check out a gallery of their projects.
  2. Information Literacy Tidbit: On “Container Collapse” - In the digital age, a challenge we’re finding students have is understanding exactly what information is when looking at it online. Read this short blog posting on container collapse, including links to an infographic about categorizing information resources, a summary of SOAPSTone, and an article about new digital story formats.
  3. Poetry Revolution! - Did you know that some of our most popular library books are poetry thanks to the popularity of social media poets. Curious about this literary trend? Browse through this #instapoetry resource. Also, check out some bookend magnetic poetry created by students in the library!
