To ALL Period 3 Teachers who showed the Starts with Hello presentation on Friday. I know it is difficult to present information that is not "your own" and I hope you found ways to connect with your students to make this information work for you and for them in preparing them with the "WHY?" behind this week coming up. Together, we make WHHS a supportive, friendly, engaging school for all!
We are excited to join with the Sandy Hook Promise folks for the national "Start with Hello" week.
On Monday, ASB, Howl Leaders, Cheerleaders, Key Club, Anti-Bullying Club, Best Buddies and several others will be at all 5 entrances to WH greeting students as they arrive on campus, making eye contact and saying "Hello".
Please look for handouts or lapel button for YOU to wear in your mailbox in the main office.
Events will take place in the Black Circle during Lunch. Music will be playing every day next week during lunch.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Night at our Football Game
Football players continued the tradition of asking teachers and staff to wear their jersey Friday night in this annual event. Students and parents in the stands loved to cheer and say "Thank you" to our staff representing all of us here at WHHS!
Although we lost 21-31, it was an excellent game with lots of excitement and terrific hear from WHHS vs. El Capitan.
It was also the first Tony Burner Memorial Cup game.

October 8-13: Homecoming Week! Game Friday 10/12; Dance in our Gym 10/13. No tickets sold at the door; Everyone must have current school I.D. to attend; Guest passes via VP office close on 9/28 (last day to turn one in to get approval for Dance). Please help us message this to ALL students! We have over 700 students at this dance. Thank you.
October 10: PSAT Minimum Day, grades 10 & 11 taking the test. More information to come.

New Tools and Features
- Google Classroom saw two major and several smaller updates this summer. First, you can now easily organize your assignments on the new Classwork tab. Second, they added a grading feature that allows you to easily flip through all the assignments in a class, add comments from a comment bank, add a grade, and return the assign (video overview).
- Adobe Spark is a free multimedia creation tool. It lets students (or you!) easily create a beautiful post, a well-designed page, or a narrated video. We now have the premium version that includes more templates and other options. Want help figuring out how to have your students create one? Contact a DLC!
- Virtual Reality! Do you want to take students on a guided tour of a historic site, explore the ocean floor, or take a trip down the Amazon river? GUHSDtech has a class set of iPods and Google Cardboard VR headsets available for checkout. If you want to bring an adventure to your classroom, check out our Virtual Reality resource page to see what’s available, learn how to make it happen in your classroom, and request the use of VR equipment. There are over 800 Google Expeditions available!
Reminder - Offline Chromebook Considerations
- According to the BrightBytes survey, over 95% of our students have wifi access at home. Depending on the school, that number fluctuates between 93% and 98%. While those numbers are impressive, it also means that on average 2 or more students per class do NOT have internet access at home. Google Drive is available offline, but it has to be activated and resources such as PDFs or videos need to be downloaded while still at school. Please be conscious of this as you assign web-based activities to your students. For more information, check out our Chromebooks Offline Teacher Resource Guide. We also have a student version.
