Thank you all for your support of and participation in Great Kindness Week! Each day at lunch ASB students and Adviser Ardy Riego have been partnering with a variety of clubs and agencies to promote and support kindness. Spirit Dress Up days have been great.

Check out the permanent reminder of kindness courtesy of our talented third and fourth year 3D Design students. Their beautiful positive word mosaic may be enjoyed now and for years to come in the west Commons wall! Thank you to John Goodman, teacher of the skills to do this work to student artists Dax Newman, Courtney Oriotis, Jessica Filak, Vittoria Barngrover, Izabella Thomas, and Jade De La Torre.

Please welcome our new School Psychologist, Evana Homovitch to campus and welcome back Maria Lenhoff as she returns from a short health leave. We thank Shelley LaFata for working in the VP office while Maria was out and Connie, our temporary Receptionist filling in for Shelley.

Image result for Under Construction
This summer will see A LOT on construction on campus again like last summer.

(1) Every building is getting additional work done on the roofs with installation of more equipment for the HVAC systems to work better.

(2) Both the boys and girls locker rooms and the team rooms in the Gym are getting replaced, repaired, and repainted in a variety of ways

(3) A variety of electrical for lighting repairs is on-going and will be completed this summer.

(4) Faculty and Staff parking lots in the front of school will be repaired, repaved, repainted and the RESERVED signs will be refreshed by the pavement company (may happen at Spring Break rather than summer..TBD)

What does this mean for YOU?
Summer school is happening June 10-28. After that, all buildings except Admin will be "off limits" due to the nature of the Construction and the wide variety of projects happening simultaneously. (We will work with individuals as needed regarding this).  PLEASE DO NOT PLAN TO USE OR BE IN YOUR CLASSROOMS OR BUILDINGS June 29-August 4, 2019. This is our best information at this time, but can change due to the ups and downs of construction and the complexities of working with contractors and sub-contractors, including vendors for needed materials, equipment and parts.

Health Occupations Center (HOC) is also undergoing massive construction and is not an option for us this summer.

More information to come as we know it..thank you.

Teachers and Counselors with new 13" MacBooks: Repeating emailed message from Dan McDowell below...this REQUIRES ACTION FROM YOU if you DO NOT want to lose everything on your work computer:

Hello GUHSD Teachers and Counselors,

In the last year, GUHSD refreshed all teacher and counselor computers. Unfortunately, a manufacturing defect is going to require almost all of the 13” Mac laptops (517) deployed last spring and this August to be tested and updated. You can see more about the issue on the Apple website.

ETS is working on a plan with Apple to visit each comprehensive site to perform the updates in a 1-3 day period. School visits will start in mid-February and continue into March. During that time ALL teachers with a qualified Mac will need to turn it into a designated location for 1-2 days while the update is applied. A Chromebook loaner will be provided for use during that time.

The update involves erasing all data from the hard drive. Teachers and counselors will need to back-up all data in advance (a good practice to have anyways!). To assist in that process, ETS will be pushing Google Backup and Sync to all recently deployed Mac computers on Wednesday, January 23. This application connects your hard drive to your GUHSD Google Account. All files in your Mac user profile will be synced to your Google Drive. Instructions on how to configure Google Backup and Sync can found here. Please configure it ASAP, the backup will occur in the background over a series of days. If you need support, please contact your Site Tech or call the HELP Desk.

Please Note: All staff members are individually responsible for backing up their files. Google Backup and Sync is the only district-supported method at this time; however, staff members may use their own backup process.

Once a schedule is finalized, we will notify everyone involved so proper planning can occur.

ETS is dedicated to supporting your use of technology in the classroom and in your jobs. We understand that this is a major inconvenience and apologize for the disruption. Doing this update is a big endeavor and we thank you for your help.
