Various Projects Coming to Completion as we approach start of school year

Classrooms get deep cleaning in the summer --carpeted areas shampooed, windows washed, lights dusted, counters and cupboards wiped down etc. Our TERRIFIC Custodial Crew (Elena Long, Todd Menges, Victor Cervantes, Ed Markile, Ted Schmidt, Liliana Garcia)  all summer long to deep clean spaces and do longer projects they can not really get to during the school year.

In addition, our WONDERFUL Grounds Crew (Matt Nelson and Kevin Darby) have time to work on our lawns, shrubs, trees, and all things grounds (power washing for chewing gum etc...) to help us start the new year off right!

Other projects almost complete at this point:

Gym Lockers replaced; Coaches offices painted, new carpet installed. Boys Team Room new lockers, flooring, paint. Girls Team Locker room new flooring (funny--existing lockers in PRISTINE condition after 30 years...not so on the Boys side....rarely used by girls teams apparently...)

Library: New Carpet

Cafeteria: New HVAC and new equipment

Guidance/Library, Performing Arts: New HVAC part II installation completed

Additional Security Cameras in the Pit are being installed as well.

We still have construction needs that will be addressed this school year / summer--our student restrooms need to be addressed, our Science classrooms need to be modernized and updated, and much, much more is on our "wish list". While we have a beautiful campus, we DO have needs and we are working with District Facilities and our Measure BB funds to address them all.

From our Human Resources (HR) Department:

As we discussed in the last Principals Council, we pulled together a committee to develop a more streamlined process for placing student teachers.  The previous system was very loose as partnering universities were directly reaching out to teachers, department chairs, VP's, principal secretaries and sometimes principals.  There was no consistency and in a number of cases, we had student teachers on our campuses that had not completed our HR requirements to be cleared.  The new process is as follows:

1.  Direct all university supervisors or placements coordinators to me and Melissa Bevier in HR.

2.  We are sending out a Google Form to all certificated staff members later today inviting them to be considered as a "guide teacher" for next fall.

3.  Once the teachers fill out the form, the list will be forwarded to principals and we will have a short form for you to fill out to approve the teachers on your site to be eligible as guide teachers next year.

4.  Once the requests come in to HR, we will refer to the list of eligible guide teachers and we will work with you to place the student teachers, keeping in mind balancing the placements across the district

5.  Once the student teacher is placed, we will work with the student teacher and the university to ensure they meet all clearances just like any new employee.  You will also be forwarded the specifics of the placement and all expectations of the student teacher from each university as they all have different requirements and expectations.

Please share this information with your teachers and especially your department chair members.
