A witness for gratitude - College of Arts & Sciences

Thank you to ALL Faculty and Staff who came out last week to cheer on our Class of 2020 as they picked up their lawn signs!  Admin delivered signs to about 21 seniors who indicated they had no way to get to WH to pick up their sign...one as far as Kensington!

WH Admin cleaning up Senior Lawn Sign pick up
We spend so much time together....we consider ourselves a "family unit" so
no face masks or 6 ft. distance for us. 😏

WH Senior happy to pick up his sign!
So was his dad, Tedd Brent (English)

From Senior Carson Hansen via email:
My sister and mom were running errands and picked up my senior sign yesterday and told me you were there and seemed very happy and excited. I just wanted to thank you and the rest of the staff for being there distributing all the posters with smiling faces. I hope all is well, stay healthy! Go Wolf Pack!

News You Can Use (maybe!) « The Jury Room

Today's Music News: 'Don't Stop Believin” is the all-time most ...
Thank you to everyone that signed up to take part in this music video. If you didn't get the chance to sign up, there is still a chance! We need staff to fill in the "instrumental breaks." If you are interested, please record a 5-second clip of yourself doing air-guitar/ air-drums. ASB students Natalie Reiderer and Kyle Hammond are taking the lead on this project and will be putting the video together.

By next Friday (May 8th), please text or E-Mail me a video of yourself lip-synching to your line. BE EXTRA. BE ENTHUSIASTIC. BE CREATIVE! Make sure that you record it in landscape form (sideways). Looking forward to watching your videos 😁

My cell phone number is (619)808-8871.

Thank You,
Ardy

Commercial Movers Hudson Valley NY - Office Moving and Relocation ...

The Administration Building staff is temporarily moving!
The Administration office is getting new carpet, paint, and a "refresh" from our Measure BB efforts. This means we will be in a variety of locations TBD. Our goals are to keep in mind each office's main clientele and functionality , as well as need to have access to student restrooms and a sink. Although we do not yet know when we might be back in a face to face "normal" school environment, we are
planning for that as well. Phone extensions will remain the same and we will
let you know when we move and "who" is going "where" once that is determined.
Stay tuned!

GUHSD Staff:

We hope you are adjusting to the distance learning world. We are excited to share that in the first cycle of distance learning, 88.15% of GUHSD students were engaged in one or more of their classes. Keeping kids engaged will continue to be a big focus for everyone each week. We know you are missing your students, but you should be proud of your efforts!

Engagement Tracking
We made some minor adjustments in the first couple of days, but the Engagement Tracking system is fully operational and providing your principals with valuable information about kids who are not participating. Remember, you only have to do it once a week on your prep day.

We know you are living it right now, but these articles - one from EdWeek article and another from Teen Vogue - do an excellent job of capturing our current teaching challenges and why kids might not be engaging. Continue to check in on them and if you have any concerns, contact your counselors!

Distance Learning Check-in Survey
Now that everyone has finished at least one lesson cycle, we would love to get some initial reflections and feedback about distance learning and on any of the professional learning sessions you might have attended a couple of weeks ago. Please click here to take the survey

Progress Report Grades
Please remember to post your progress report grades by 10:00 am on Monday, May 4. Guidance related to this grading period is available here. The much-anticipated final semester grade policy will be available early next week.

Continued Support
If you or a student has a technical issue, email help@guhsd.net. If you need support designing a digital lesson, creating a screencast, hosting a meeting in Zoom, or any other items related to instruction - Request a DLC.

Take care and stay safe.

Choose Nu-Way Search! West Hills does not qualify for Title I funds next
year. We had 34.12% of our students on free / reduced lunch as of the capture date in the fall and we needed 35% or greater. We appealed this decision and were denied. This means we will be using general funds to keep our PSAT testing of both 10th and 11th graders in place (the District has always paid for the 10th graders, we have used Title I to pay for 11th graders (the National Merit Scholarship qualification year / SAT testing year preparation) and we will now do so from our general fund. Due to declining enrollment (enrollment projections for 2020-21 SY are 1659 total enrollment), we will be looking at staffing carefully and not replacing retiring teachers. We will also be asking all period 3 teachers to have every student complete the Free and Reduced Lunch application online during the second week of school and expect to re-qualify for Title I for the 2021-22 school year.
