GREAT START of SCHOOL! Thank you all for the smooth start to our school year. Although enrollment has dropped, we are still balancing classes and making sure we align with the new contractual agreement of 38:1 in each class period (excepting some electives and ENS course counts). Contractually we have until the third Friday of school to complete this but I know our wonderful Counselors and GIS will continue to work on this and we should be balanced sooner than this. Please continue to talk with your Department Chair if you have questions or concerns. Our first Department Chair and Leadership meeting of the year is Thursday, 8/25 at 2:00 in E-8. We will discuss this and our Tutoring schedule along with much more at this meeting. All are welcome to attend who are not teaching a class at this time.
September 8: Back to School Night (Open House): 6:00-8:00 p.m. Parents will be following their student schedules and teachers will have about 10 mins. with each parent group. Period 3 will have extended time to show the "Welcome Back to School Video" from the Principal, PTSA President Alicia Haddix, and Foundation President Keshav Damoor (class of 2000).
September 13 -14: UNITY DAYS for SOPHOMORES: 10th Graders with last names A-L will be in the GYM on September 14 and M-Z on September 15 as they go through this amazing experience. All faculty and staff are invited to participate! Teachers of Sophomores particularly are asked to do one of the days. Substitutes are provided and we need about 15-18 adults each day to ensure one per small group of students. Please let Ginny Bell know if you need a sub. April Baker is the Admin coordinating this event if you have any questions....
September 19-23: HOMECOMING WEEK, GAME and DANCE: Get ready for another wonderful HOMECOMING WEEK with a terrific football game FRIDAY September 23 and Dance Saturday, September 24 in our GYM.
We encourage all faculty and staff to bring your families and enjoy our game Friday night! The stands will be packed as alumni join us to root on our Wolf Pack young men against Serra HS.
The responsibility of the School Site Council (SSC) is to analyze the academic achievement of the students at West Hills, including sub-groups, then develop plans to meet the needs identified by that data. They will also work with other school advisory and parent groups, regarding developing/revising the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). The SSC will provide on-going monitoring of the implementation of the SPSA, evaluate the effectiveness of the SPSA and recommend the SPSA to the Board of Trustees for their approval. The SSC will work with the district to ensure that the Title I improvement plans are appropriate and integrated into the SPSA.
