GREAT JOB on the Faculty and Staff Airbands performance folks! We are searching for video of the event and want to THANK ALL who participated--it IS "Hard to be a Teen" and huge THANK YOUs to Deborah Heeb for being our creative genius, Danny Tricarico for writing terrific dialogue, and Ardy Riego for shepherding ASB through this event! Students LOVED it and commented on how funny and fun this was! As soon as we get video, we will send it out.

Thank you all for your care, concern, and engagement with each other and our students on this critical topic. There is student interest in both the March 14 and the April 20 Walkouts and as we check in with teachers and departments, we continue to monitor and work with students on insuring our educational program while being sensitive to their desire for action and expressing their ideas.
On the weekend, the San Diego Union published this article regarding an "Interactive Map showing School Violence in San Diego County". Both the Grossmont Union High School District and West Hills are noted in the article.We  had three expulsions in the 2016-17 school year (the most recently public data published) and NONE of them were for guns. Safety remains our top concern and we will ALWAYS vigorously  and with integrity and due process pursue any and all matters brought to us regarding safety, in both the physical and social-emotional needs of all involved.

Friday, March 2: PACK Day: Minimum Day where Parents Attend Class with Kids Day:This is a typical teaching and learning day for our students--we just have a few more of them and they are a little older! Check with your students and see how popular this day is with their parents. If you feel like folding chairs would help the seating capacity of your room, please let our MSF Chris Quarders know. Here is the letter for Teachers and Staff sent via email in case you need it again.

Monday, March 5, 2018, 7:45 a.m. in S-8: Admin Lead Staff Meeting: Mandatory for all Faculty and Staff;  Wonderful AVID Students will be leading us in a short activity applying Costa's Levels of Rigor; Final whole staff meeting before our WASC visit; See this link for our visitation schedule; We have sent out calendar invites for the various meetings and will be asking selected teachers for sub needs;

Sunday, March 18- Wednesday, 21, 2018: WASC Visiting Team on campus.Please look at your email for the calendar invite(s) that pertain to you. Department Chair and Leadership along with WASC Focus Group Leaders have a few more invites than others. Link to the schedule for the visit is hereTake a look at out our Final Self Studyparticularly the last pages 182-185. WASC STAFF NOTES (our "cheat sheet") is helpful and will be discussed in our March 5 All Staff meeting as well. 

April 11-12, 18, 25-26: CAASPP TESTING: "Reverse Minimum Days"--11th grade testing 7:15-9:15 am; Regular Period 1 begins 9:34. See entire CAASPP Testing Schedule HERE with tabs at the bottom for additional information. Thank you to Department Chair and Leadership group for working with Admin to develop and discuss this schedule. Aligned with our school goals for shared cross-content collaboration and expanding ALL TEACHERS understanding of SBAC testing with students, EVERYONE has a role to play in testing, not just English and Math teachers. As always, after we carry this out, we will review how it went and make improvements for the following year.
Tentatively Monday, June 4 @ 1:00 p.m.: Dedication of the Dave Hunter Gymnasium with unveiling of the new name and a reception in the Foyer. More to come on this....

We appreciate your work with our PTSA, leading ENS classes in physical challenges and volunteering (with your young sons) to check in students at our dances! ASB will put this money to good use to benefit our students!

A staff member sent this to Admin and I say "Heck ya...let's see who's up for the challenge!" Maybe we have a talented student who wants to design our logo? OK honestly here is where I fall short since waking up early on a Saturday morning is not really my idea of fun, but hanging out with a bunch of friends from work does, and doing something to promote how awesome our school is- even more awesome!
