The work each and every one of us does on campus makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE in the lives of 1760 students, their families, and the 130 West Hills Staff members. Team work, kindness, patience and grace often are the currency of our relationships and I am so very grateful to each and every one of you and your choice to be part of the mighty Wolf Pack! IMPORTANT REMINDERS for the Week
Enrollment and master schedule is not final until the third Friday of the year--August 31. If the expected number of students do not attend or more students than expected show up, classes may be closed or added as needed. Therefore, PLEASE keep the following in mind:
** TIMELY & CORRECT ATTENDANCE TAKING IS
MASSIVELY IMPORTANT***
Thank you all for your attention to this critical component of our school program. If you have any questions or concerns, please talk with Laura Devore in Attendance or a VP.
(a) tell any student who asks about "moving classes" that they need to go see their Counselor.
(b) Keep any student who is on your roster for that period in class with you even if you are above 38 or the maximum number of students you believe you should have. Let Joann Johnson know and this will be corrected.
(c) Please do not share how many "open" seats you may or may not have in any one class period. Refer all students with these questions to the Counseling office.
Information Regarding Chromebooks and Library Hours
- 9th grade students checked out Chromebooks on Thursday with Global Studies classes. THANK YOU GLOBAL STUDIES TEACHERS! Students must have their Responsible Use Policy signed by parent and with them to get a Chromebook. For all students, the deadline for purchasing an insurance warranty is September 30th. Go to futureforward.guhsd.net for more info
- If you have a broken or missing Chromebook or charger from the summer - or if you are a new 10th-12th grader who needs to check out a Chromebook - go to the library this week between 7:00 am and 2:00 pm when you do not have class or with permission from your teacher.
- The library will be open for regular use starting next week.
(d) Please check your mailbox in the Main office each day and sign in each day. This is critical for payroll and timely sharing of information / retrieval of information, particularly if you have a Period 3 ("Homeroom") class.
CAMP LEAD: We are looking for six faculty / staff members for our September 13-14-15 Camp Lead. If you can attend, please talk with or email Robin or Ginny. This is an AWESOME experience working with students in a beautiful Pine Valley Executive Camp location. The cabins are lovely and the food terrific! Please help us help others if your schedule allows for it. We pay for your sub and we can't take kids without you.
Hello GUHSDtech Teachers,
Welcome back to the new school year! The GUHSDtech team wanted to share some quick updates and reminders as you get ready for Tuesday.
- Google Classroom was updated on Tuesday, August 7. The biggest improvement is a Classwork tab that allows you better organize your assignments. You can see all the updates on the Google Education Blog. If you created your classes before August 7, you will not have access to the new features.
- In the last year, GUHSDtech added Actively Learn, PearDeck, and Adobe Spark to the list of premium tools available to teachers and students. Additionally, Flipgrid is now free for everyone! Check out the complete list of GUHSDtech supported tools.
- Need help using any of these tools? Or help planning a tech-infused lesson or project? The Digital Learning Coach team is available to help you. Just complete this form, and they will be in contact to set an appointment.
- GoGuardian made some functional improvements over the summer, but no doubt students will continue to try to find ways around them. While ETS and GoGuardian will continue to make adjustments and improvements, you also can help! If you use GoGuardian, set the expectation in your class that students do not get around it. If a student does not show up and claims innocence, contact the Help Desk or complete this form. Circumventing GoGuardian goes against the GUHSD Responsible Use Policy. Please try and hold your students accountable.
Have a great first week of school!
The GUHSDtech Team
