On Thursday, May 2, West Hills was proud to host the GUHDS "Honoring Excellence" evening celebrating Retirees, "Teachers of the Year" and "Classified Staff of the Quarter". Below are our WH honorees. Thank you to our GREAT Custodial crew lead by Elena Long and our MSF Chris Quarders and theater expert Carrin Edwards for making this event happen!

Valedictorian and Salutatorian Selection Committee Meeting is Monday, May 6 at 7:45 in the Faculty Lounge. Teachers of AP Seniors are particularly welcome as all others are. 
District policy require the one student with the highest GPA be a Valedictorian. A committee chaired by the Principal and convened by members of the teaching faculty meet and may select additional Valedictorians and / or Salutatorians as desired.

Thank you again for our two week testing window prior to Spring Break. Thank you to those of you who have given feedback after Day 1 of testing--this was very helpful moving forward for the remaining two weeks. If you could please take a moment and provide feedback in this Feedback Form  regarding the entire two week testing experience, that would be great. In addition, we are conducting make up testing currently and next week to get to our legal mandate 95% or better testing. You can see the CAASPP Completion Rates here.

SILVER W Nominations are still open. Please complete this form for any senior who you think meets this criteria:
The Silver “W” is your chance to recognize the seniors who have made a difference at West Hills. These are the students who have demonstrated a willingness to do whatever they can to make our school a better place for all.  

This is a very coveted award for students, so please consider your nominations carefully. The selection meeting is Monday, May 13th in the Faculty Lounge at 7:45 a.m..  
The selection criteria are as follows: 

1. The Award will be presented to no more than 10 seniors each year. 

2. Fewer than ten awards may be presented, if fewer than 10 seniors meet the criteria. 

3. Selection will be based on: 
a) School Service    
b School Leadership   
c) School Participation   
d) Attitude 

 4. The recipient must have a minimum 2.25 grade point average on the last report before selection.        
                   
5. The recipient must not have any significant discipline referrals during their enrollment at West Hills.  (Discipline records will be reviewed.) 

6. All Staff members will be given the opportunity to nominate candidates. 

7. The selection will be made by those who attend the selection meeting.   

8. Teachers of seniors and those teachers who sponsor extracurricular clubs, groups, teams, or are class sponsors are urged to participate.  

Persons who nominate a candidate will be asked to speak to that selection or have a colleague prepared to do so.

Textbook Check-In
  • After the due date, students will be billed the "lost" amount for textbooks not checked in. This may block them from receiving items (e.g., yearbooks*, cap & gown, etc.) in a timely manner. FYI: Yearbook distribution starts Friday, 5/24.
  • If you will be checking in textbooks AFTER the due date listed, please email ssannwald@guhsd.net with the textbook title and actual, planned check-in date.

  • More regular “invoice” (fine) email notices will be sent as we enter the end-of-year.
  • Seniors will be receiving more detailed information about Chromebook sales soon.
  • If Seniors are not purchasing Chromebooks, they must return it by Wed 5/29 and will be billed for any damage or lost items. If these Seniors need Chromebook access after Wed 5/29, they must make arrangements with the library.
  • 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students keep Chromebooks during the summer unless they are not returning to WHHS in the fall.
  • FYI: ~550 repairs as of 5/2/19 for school year; ~70 still outstanding
