Important dates from our Bell Schedule coming up....
Added: a second Assembly Day, Oct. 2 for Homecoming Carnival from Period 5B-Lunch.
All students got to class 5A and teachers teach 5A. Then everyone is released to Black Circle / Pit for extended lunch and Homecoming Carnival. (optional for teachers and staff).

September 23-27: "Start with Hello" week: ASB sponsors various activities all; Part of our Sandy Hook Promise work; Please join us in working to open up positive school culture. Check out the calendar here and if you teach Period 3, we may have some handouts for you to share with your classes / optional activities to participate in.
September 30-October 4: Homecoming Week (Spirit Days, Class Competitions, Football Game etc)
Wednesday, October 2: Homecoming Festival: Assembly schedule--Everyone teaches 5A; Extended lunch and festival all faculty, staff, students Period 5B through student lunch (optional for teaching faculty but we hope you join us for part or all of this!
Friday, October 4: Homecoming Assembly: traditional Assembly schedule. Admin will send out memo of which buildings come to first assembly, which come to second.
Saturday, October 5: Homecoming Dance in our Gym--all are welcome! 7-10 p.m.
Equitable Access and Culturally Responsive Teaching: October 2
In this one day workshop, teachers will:
*Explore culturally responsive teaching methods
*Experience and review best practices for equity and access for all learners
*Practice strategies for providing linguistic and literacy support
Spotlight on Paraprofessionals--Classified Aides--One-to-One Aides
Something to think about as we bring more of these fine folks into our campus and classes. Take a read through this short article "What I Learned as a Paraprofessional".
Students design our AVID shirts annually and this year's winning designer is senior, Jeremiah Bachman. If you would like to purchase a shirt to show support for our program and the AVID students in your classes, please email Carrin Edwards (cedwards@guhsd.net) with your size. Shirts will be $10-12.
With the Jewish High Holidays (Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur) falling in September / October, many Jewish parents or guardians will be requesting excused time off or other accommodations for children to observe these holy days with their loved ones.
This year:
- Rosh Hashanah begins on Sunday, September 9th at sundown and ends at sundown on Monday, September 30th.
- Yom Kippur begins on Tuesday, September 18th at sundown and ends at sundown on Wednesday, October 9th.
Please note, some students, faculty and / or staff may miss school due to their faith. All work may be made up with no deduction in credit or attendance penalty.
