Homecoming Success!
Thank you once again to all Faculty and Staff who participated and supported ALL of our Homecoming Activities! ASB and Ardy Riego did the "heavy lifting" on the event, but EVERYONE played a part in dressing up, attending the Carnival, the Assembly, the Game and / or the Dance!
Kudos to all for another successful week!
Results from the Homecoming Student and Staff surveys are below. We appreciate your feedback in planning for next year. These will also be discussed at Department Chair and Leadership Team meeting next week!

Congratulations to our very own Heather Maxwell for moving from wonderful Mild / Mod Aide to wonderful Mild / Mod TEACHER! Heather starts Monday in her new role due to student growth within our Individual Instruction program. She has a social science credential and is working with PLNU completing her Special Education credential.  We are proud to have her on faculty!

Santee Fire Engine #5 is now "Wolf Pack Territory"!
The City of Santee, the GUHSD, Santana HS, and West Hills HS all supported the
Santee Fire Department for wanting to "host a school" on Fire Engines #4 and #5 as
they respond to calls within Santee and the East County. With graduates of both schools within the Department, it was easy to support their vision and work with them as they created custom logos for their Departments. Unveiled at the Mayor's Cup Football game Friday night, it was great to see such spirit in the community!
Look for "our Engine" as you roam the East County!
Santana and West Hills Fire Engines with Santee Firemen
unveiled at the Mayor's Cup Football game Friday, Oct. 11.

Thank you WHHS Cheer and Coach / II Aide Krystal Kaymeyer for making it a night to remember!

Two schools, one community! Santana and West Hills Cheer support their
Fire Engine crews and spirit!

At the game, they presented checks to both principals. Thank you to all who attended the fundraiser--they gave West Hills ASB over $1900!!  Every dollar raised goes to the students, athletics, clubs and programs on campus. Thank you Chick-fil-A!

The language of Hamlet and today's teens...thank you Jennifer Romanowski for this strategy to pre-think vocabulary, context, and critical thinking skills while introducing Hamlet to seniors. Using individual quotes on slips of paper, and "Musical Chairs", students walked around grouped tables with quotes on chairs to thoughtfully selected music that echoed the themes of the play.  Students had a quote page where they had to write what they thought was the meaning of the quote (on their own or talking with peers). After several rounds of "musical quotes" students got into tri-ads and used large group white boards to brainstorm ideas, pictures, thoughts on "What do you think Hamlet is about? What do you look forward to figuring out?"  This was just one way to work with students on pre-knowledge, vocabulary in context (remember Lin Kuzmich's work with us at out Back to School days? Learning new terms only works in context). Want to know more? Reach out Jennifer...she is happy to share and brainstorm ideas with you!
