To the very talented and hardworking Cast and Crew of "12 Incompetent Jurors" that opened Friday night! West Hills Adopt a Family

Positive Acts of Collective Kindness
West Hills staff is once again collecting donations for West Hills Families in need. Our goal is to give each family the freedom to purchase whatever makes their holidays the most rewarding, so we'd prefer to collect donations of gift cards or cash.  Our suggested gift cards would be: Famous Footwear, Walmart, Target, (inexpensive) restaurants (including fast food), Kohl's, gas cards, grocery store, entertainment (movies, miniature golf, etc.), and Costco are all appreciated, just to name a few.

If you would like to make a donation, please drop off gift cards or cash (no checks please) to our front receptionist, Shelley LaFata or to Ginny Bell. Last year we were able to help 7 West Hills students giving each one $450 in donations!
We can provide a tax receipt if requested.
The deadline for collection is Thursday, December 12th.  Our plan is to get the gifts to the families before we leave on winter break. We thank you in advance for supporting students and families in need.
We are One, We are the Pack!

FALL PRACTICE ICA CAASPP - Begins this week!

Please be aware of our plan to administer and score the Practice CAASPP (ICA). A solid test
administration and scoring session will provide valuable data for us. All Grade 11 students are
taking the ICA CAASPP practice Exam in their English courses.

We have less than 3 school days until our juniors take this test. If you have juniors,
please encourage them to put forth their best effort.

ICA CAASPP Q & A

FALL PRACTICE CAASPP 2019-20

Below are a few important questions and answers regarding the upcoming practice
.
Q. Why is this exam important?
A. This is the state measure of how well our students are performing
academically according to state standards in ALL subjects. Content
is tested across many curricular areas, not only English literature,
but mathematics, history, science and electives.
Q. Who takes the practice CAASPP (ICA)?
A. All of our juniors will take the practice CAASPP.

Q. When will the practice CAASPP (ICA) be given?
A. Our juniors will begin taking the exam November 13th.

Q. Will the bell schedule be changed for the exam?
A. NO.  In an effort to practice the exam as if it were the "real deal", we will be
mimicking  that of the spring administration.
All Grade 11 students will take it in their English courses.

Q. Who is going to score the practice CAASPP (ICA)?
A. All certificated staff are asked to score the exams per our discussions the last few years
in Department Chair and Leadership Team to broaden all teachers' understanding of this
important exam and to further our literacy efforts across campus. This is also part of our
self-identified WASC Goal regarding cross-curricular awareness and work.

Q. When will the scoring take place?
A. We will score the exams on December 2nd and 9th
during PLC time in our Literacy Groups

Q. Will we be trained?
A.  We will be trained on December 2nd. The Junior English Team will
train us in our 19-20 Literacy Team groups

See John Hoadley in Admin if you have questions or concerns about scoring
